This was my pitch this was used to present my ideas, the conventions and the methods of distribution to my peers. They then suggested ideas for how I could improve my ideas in the form of a post-it notes,I then put all the post it notes on a sheet of A3 .

Analysis of Film posters
Analysis of posters
The Football Factory
The visual codes within the image suggest violence as the men have their fists clenched and
look to be in various fighting stances. They are coming out of the poster towards the audience which is intimidating and threatening, indicative of the genre. There is also what looks to be blood
splatters along the bottom of the page which again conveys the theme of
violence.
The main colour on the
poster is red both because it is catches people’s eyes and also the
connotations it has with violence, danger and blood.
The tagline
“what else you gonna do on a Saturday?” references the time which most matches
are played however the tagline suggests that fighting is the only thing to do
on Saturdays, this again gives the audience an insight in to the lives of the
characters but also the narrative. The mode of address is informal using slang to further suggest the genre and themes of the film. This may also resonate with the target audience.
Overall this
poster successfully portrays the message of the film's narrative both through
the main image and the colours used. The tagline is also very clever in that it
summarises the feelings of the characters in the film in one simple sentence.
Overall this poster successfully sells and markets the film.
Green Street Hooligans
The
purpose of this poster again is to put across the genre, themes and narrative of the
film. The main image shows the main characters in the film, with the two most
important characters, which the film focuses most on positioned at the front of
the shot. The character's facial expressions show anger and violence which
reflects the genre and nature of the film. There is a clear hierarchy established through the layout and design with the lesser characters at the back. The overall colour scheme for this poster
is dark and bleak looking this gives off a rough and raw impression which again
helps suggest the genre and narrative of the film. The main source of light focuses on the characters and their mode of address is direct. The film poster is also constructed to look beaten and folded which also reinforces the rough nature of the film.
The tagline “stand your ground” looks to
be sprayed on the wall behind the characters, this gives the poster more of an
edgy feel and has connotations of aggression and tension. The line it’s self
“stand your ground” again puts forward the themes of violence and confrontation. Overall I feel that this poster successfully puts forward the narrative and themes of the film.
“stand your ground” again puts forward the themes of violence and confrontation. Overall I feel that this poster successfully puts forward the narrative and themes of the film.
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

The use of bold masculine colours such as red suggests that the film is aimed at a predominantly young male audience. The use of the colour red highlights the shotgun which brings with it connotations of death and danger. The colour white is used to highlight the characters silhouettes but also the finger on the trigger. The finger on the trigger suggest that the characters are not in control of the action, reinforcing the tagline.
The title "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" references a shotgun which again suggests that a shotgun may have a big role in the film and has generic associations. The title is written in quite a cartoon style font which conveys that there may also be a comedy element to the film.
Overall I think this poster is very effective as it cleverly puts across the themes and genre of the film without giving away too much. It also creates a sense of enigma with the use of the silhouettes. The poster works as a teaser for the film as the audience are not given any information about actors, the focus of the appeal is the genre.

Analysis of Trailers
The cuts are straight and quite fast paced between shots, this suggests the build up of tension in the trailer, this is also put forward by the music which changes from chanting to rap music with a higher tempo, giving it an urban gritty feel and more suited to the genre of film and the target audience.
The locations used in the trailer are typical of a working man's daily life for example they cut between the match and the pub both stereotypical places for a football hooligan.
Violence is prominent throughout the trailer with various shots of fights and violent clashes of fans and rival gangs, this is included in the trailer both to attract the target audience of males and to show both the genre and style of the film.
The trailer uses title cards through out the trailer to help present the storyline to the potential audience of the film and also to show newspapers reviews of the film, this will attract wider audiences if they think the film has good reviews. The use of expert criticism gives the trailer credibility and promises the audience a quality product.
This trailer is for a film called "Green Street Hooligans". The trailer also starts with a voice over from the main character telling his story and addressing the audience, this hooks in the audience and gives the trailer more of a realistic personal feel. The trailer also clearly shows the narrative which is important when trying to persuade people to see a film as it gives them an insight as to what the film is about.
The trailer starts out with a relaxed, happy feel to it reflected both through the music used and the shots and dialogue of the characters. The mood then changes as the main character enters the pub where he suddenly looks out of place. The music then changes to a higher tempo song and we meet the "bad guy" in the film shown through his dialogue and the low camera angles used to show his dominance. The cuts then get quicker to show an escalation in action, the music then gets louder to give the trailer a more violent feel for the fight scenes and to appeal to the predominantly male target audience.
Throughout the trailer title cards are used to show magazine reviews about the film which will again attract audiences if it has good reviews. At the end of the trailer the audience is informed that all music was produced by Kasabian which will again broaden the audience as it will make fans of Kasabian want to see the film.
Overall I feel this trailer is very effective as it tells the narrative, clearly outlines the main characters and their roles in the narrative and creates a sense of enigma that will make people want to see the film.
This is the trailer for The Football Factory. The trailer starts in quite a different way to the other two in that it starts up tempo both with fast cuts and fast paced music which fit with the violence shown in the trailer from the start, this differs from the other trailers as in the other trailers the tempo stated off quite slowly then built up to a higher tempo towards the end. The trailer does however start with a voice over of the main character saying why he turned to football hooliganism, this also takes place in both of the other trailers and is used to engage and address potential audiences as the mode of address is direct. The cuts in the trailer show several violent clashes with rival fans. It also shows a news report of the FA cup draw where Chelsea draw their greatest rivals Millwall, it then cuts to the characters' reactions of the draw. This construction helps both to show the narrative and create a sense of enigma for the audience which will make them want to see the film. The editing also helps to show different characters and their roles and personality within the narrative of the trailer. The trailer shows a lot of different locations which are stereotypical for this style of film for example a bars, back lanes, night clubs and pubs, this also reinforces audience expectations in that this is what they expect to see in this sort of film.
Through out the trailer there is also title cards with newspaper reviews of the film on them which again will make people want to see the film.
Overall I feel this trailer is relatively successful in that it uses the music and the fast pace cuts to show the violence in the film however I don't feel that the storyline is put across very well and the trailer focuses too much on the violence in the film rather that the storyline.

Brief
For my A2 coursework I plan to create a promotion package for a new film, which includes a teaser trailer, a magazine front cover featuring the film and a poster to promote the film. I felt that the experiences I gained from AS year meant that this task played to my strengths. Last year I used Photoshop to create a magazine this helped develop my Photoshop knowledge which stands me in good stead for the tasks this year. The genres I have chosen are gangster, action, war and hooliganism because they all link in with the trailer I am planning to create. As well as generic conventions, I will also be looking at the iconography and narrative strands in the different genres. A generic convention is a feature of a film that the audience expect to happen, it is part of the repertoire of elements for that genre. For example, in an action film, the audience expect dramatic storylines and larger than life characters. Iconography can be defined as objects, settings or image representations that are associated with a specific type of genre. For example, the iconography in Westerns may include cowboy hats, saloons, guns and horses, however in my film the iconography will be elements such as football strips, stadiums and clothing suggesting team allegiance.
